Why Streaming Alone Is Not Enough for Independent Rock Artists

Streaming can support discovery, but independent rock sustainability usually requires direct-to-fan ownership revenue.

Exposure vs Sustainability

Streaming can be useful for awareness. It is often weak as a standalone business model for independent rock artists unless scale is very high.

Ownership-first commerce adds the missing layer: direct support from fans willing to buy music, not just play it in the background.

Hybrid Strategy

Use streaming for top-of-funnel discovery where appropriate. Use direct ownership for durable revenue: vinyl, cassette, CD, and DRM-free sales. This model aligns with how niche rock scenes actually support artists long-term.
