Arunava Roy started making music in college around 2002–2003, rooted in Bengali rock before a move to Bangalore in 2011 opened him up to Western rock, blues, jazz, and reggae. He formed his band Roots in 2015, channelling the weight of corporate life, IT work, and depression into songs that feel good on the surface but run much deeper in the lyrics. His forthcoming album — 8 to 10 songs written from the inside out — follows the principle that everyday life, honestly observed, is the only inspiration he needs.
